Named for its sand (kum in Turkish), Kumluk is Datça's town beach, just a few minutes' walk from the harbour. On a peninsula where pebble shores are common, it has fine sand and water that deepens gradually from the shoreline. That makes it the easiest option for families with small children and for anyone who wants a morning swim without getting in the car. Being right in town, it has a lively, sociable feel all day.
Cafés and restaurants line the back of the beach. Sunbeds and umbrellas are mostly provided by these businesses, usually for a fee, but you can also spread your towel on the public part of the sand. In the late afternoon the beach changes mood: walkers take over the shoreline, people drop by for a last swim and the cafés settle into the evening. Coffee, an ice cream or lunch is never more than a few steps away.
Because it's in the centre, there's no need to drive: walking from town is easy and saves the hunt for parking. In July and August the middle of the day can be crowded, so for calmer water come early in the morning or in the late afternoon. When there's no time for a full day at a cove, it's the most practical place to cool off between outings, and ideal for a last dip before dinner after a day at Knidos or in the villages.
